Harvey is a 16 year old boy who is working as a newspaper delivery boy for the newspaper company. He gets paid every Thursday. This is his first job and he gets paid by check. Mr. Smith is his boss. Thursday Harvey gets his first paycheck and gets very sad. He was supposed to make 100 dollars but the check is only 70 dollars. Mr. Smith sees that Harvey gets sad and explains to him what deductions are. He starts with federal taxes which is about 8 dollars from Harvey's paycheck. The government collects taxes from all citizens to built bridges and highways and fund the army. He then explains what the social security deduction is for and also, medicare, state and city taxes. At the end Harvey is glad that the government is thinking to save money for him so he gets it when he retires. Sparky is Harvey's dog. He is sad when Harvey is sad and then gets happy at the end when Harvey understands how taxes work.

Noah sat on his grandparents' front porch, feeling the weight of the emptiness beside him where his Grandma used to sit. Noah expressed his fear that letting go of the sadness might mean forgetting his Grandma. Grandad reassured him that it was okay to feel sad, but it was also okay to feel joy when remembering the happy times with her. As Noah recalled fond memories of his Grandma, a warm feeling began to fill his heart, softening the emptiness. Grandad then shared that his Grandma’s love was still present, much like the stars in the sky—though we can't always see them, they continue to shine. Noah looked up at the stars, noticing one that seemed to shine brighter than the others. He imagined that star represented his Grandma’s enduring love. Grandad explained that when someone we love passes, they become like the stars: always present, even when we can’t see them. Noah realized that, although he couldn’t see his Grandma anymore, her love was still with him, in his heart and memories. As Noah breathed deeply, he felt a little more at peace,

Page 6 They quietly walk into a room with a sarcophagus, a big stone box that holds a mummy. “This mummy was once a great ruler,” says Rami. Sam and Ava feel a little scared, but also very curious! Page 7 At midday, they visit the busy market. People trade goods like wheat, dates, and cloth. “We use boats to carry our goods along the Nile,” explains Rami. Sam and Ava see bright, woven baskets full of fruit. Page 8 It is time to say goodbye. Rami waves. “Come again!” Sam and Ava open the magic book and zoom back home. Their hearts are full of wonder at all they have learned about Ancient Egypt.
